More Brits Making the Right Move Abroad

More Brits Making the Right Move AbroadRecently it came to light that the British government’s original estimate of a maximum of 13,000 immigrants arriving to live in the UK following the entry of a number of new countries into the EU back in 2004 were grossly underestimated and now at least half a million legal immigrants have taken up residence in Britain from these nations alone.

Ever since these findings came to light a controversial political debate has been heating up about who should and shouldn’t be allowed to live in Great Britain - and as accusations relating to political incorrectness and racial insensitivity fly, more Brits are choosing to turn their back on their rain soaked bickering politicians and they are choosing to emigrate away from Great Britain instead…

This irony cannot go uncommented upon!

No, you can’t come and live in our country but perish the thought that you should try and prevent us coming to live in yours!

Okay, so we Brits aren’t that bad, but isn’t it ironic that while the debate intensifies in the UK a greater number of Britons are moving away from the UK than the number of foreign citizens moving to live in the UK?

If you look at official statistics (and official statistics are always lower than actual figures) 350,000 people choose to turn their backs on the UK annually and already 8% of the British population live abroad.  This figure is so far higher than the percentage of say, French, Italian, American or Canadian citizens living abroad that it’s more worrying than surprising.  Is it intrinsically a part of the Brit to want to roam and discover new horizons or has Britain become such an undesirable place to live?

It seems it would depend who you speak to…

The number of Brits making, what is for them, the right move abroad has gone up by almost exactly fifty percent in just one decade – and if you ask a broad section of society about their views relating to expatriation and living abroad up to 13% will say they are seriously considering moving to live overseas according to a recent BBC survey.

So what’s fuelling the British obsession with moving abroad?  Lifestyle, finances, weather and the government apparently…and are the government worried about this?  No, they’re quite happy to see the back of us just as long as we pay what we owe in taxes before we leave and remember that if we die abroad they will come and claim their inheritance tax dues.
