Greater Number of Brits Moving Abroad

Greater Number of Brits Moving AbroadWorryingly for Tony Blair, a greater number of British citizens than ever are seriously contemplating emigration according to a new survey conducted by the BBC into the demographics of those who move abroad and the reasons that emigrants have for leaving.

The findings of the survey make particularly concerning reading for the British government when viewed in light of the fact that the Institute of Public Policy Research in the UK advises that a greater number of Britons now live overseas than foreign residents who live in the UK and that Britain is once again heading for a ‘brain-drain’.

Of those surveyed by BBC News all age groups appeared to be unanimously in agreement in stating that the quality of life achievable in the UK was lower than that which they believed was achievable overseas, and that Britain is too expensive a country in which to live and enjoy life.

The majority of those Brits surveyed who are actively planning on moving abroad are in the 18 – 25 year old age group and overall the survey found that the number of Brits moving abroad or at least dreaming of a new life overseas has gone up by almost 50% in just three years.

These findings don’t say much for the quality of life being led in the UK today…

Of those moving abroad around one third were actively seeking a better quality of life and a further third were keen on living life in a country where the climate was better.  And over 40% of those who felt they were only able to dream of a new life abroad stated quite categorically that it was the familial restrictions and personal responsibilities holding them back from turning their dream into a reality rather than any loyalty or commitment to the UK.

Britain has consistently been losing more people overseas since the 1960s than it has managed to attract to its shores and of those who emigrate an ever increasing percentage are graduates and professionals meaning that Britain has achieved an outward flow of talent which it is apparently not addressing.

If the British government continues to over tax its citizens and fails to prevent crippling increases to commute costs which force Britons to work ever longer hours for less it will find itself in a disastrous situation in a very short period of time.  Meanwhile countries like Australia, Spain, Canada, New Zealand and the United States will benefit as these are the most favoured location with an ever greater number of Brits moving abroad.
