Where to Buy Property in BelizeAlthough Belize is not an especially large country, it does offer quite a diverse range of geographic locations in which holiday makers like to relax, retirees like to put their feet up, expatriates like to settle down and property investors like to buy real estate – so in order for you to answer the question about where to buy property in Belize to fulfil your own personal objectives, you need to know a little more about the most popular locations.

In this article we explore four of the most popular locations with retirees and expatriates looking for a home in Belize, and we also introduce an emerging property market within the emerging market that is Belize!

Starting from the top and working our way down through Belize, the first location that you might like to explore for your Belize property purchase is the Northern Cayes (pronounced Keys).  You have both Ambergris and Caulker which are as popular with expatriates living full time in Belize as they are with holiday makers and holiday home hunters.

It’s fair to say that Ambergris Caye is actually the most popular location in the whole country with international citizens who move to Belize for the fishing, the scenery, the laid back pace of life and the fantastic climate.  Naturally enough, the popularity of the location with more affluent American and Northern European buyers has pushed property prices up quite considerably in recent years, and so while their interest in the Northern Cayes has had a positive effect on the development of the location and the improvement of accessibility and infrastructure, it has had a negative affect on affordability!

So, if Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker (or Corker) are not for you in terms of property prices or the number of expatriate citizens who have beaten you to it already – how about the second location on our list of hot property prospects in Belize, namely Corozal?

Property in Corozal is far cheaper than in the Northern Cayes – and in fact personally we feel this is one of the best areas to actually settle down and live in Belize.  Corozal Town and surrounding areas are multi-culturalism personified meaning that while you may still stick out it won’t matter!  In addition to this, day to day life is very laid back, slow paced and easy to get used to.  There are more Western style amenities and facilities within easy reach over the border in Mexico meaning that you can pretty much have the best of both worlds – i.e., live a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of modern life whilst having the conveniences of modern life a stone’s throw away!

Now if all that sounds like you’re cheating at life a bit and having it all too easy what about our third preferred location with property hunters in Belize and that’s the Cayo District which houses the tiny capital city of Belmopan as well as San Ignacio which is a town with just slightly more citizens than Belmopan.  The Cayo District is a great place for those who want to get away from it all in Belize, there is plenty of untouched open space and just so much to see and do for those who love the rugged outdoor life.  Increasingly tourism is encroaching but you can still bag yourself a bargain home in the form of a small farmhouse and live a relatively self sufficient lifestyle.

Before we reveal our emerging market, the final ‘established’ location in Belize that’s proving popular with those seeking a new life abroad is of course the Southern coast.  This is where you’ll find the very best beaches, some of the most attractive scenery and steep property prices to almost rival Ambergris!  Most expatriates head instinctively for Placencia which is undergoing a real estate revolution – but if you want to step back in time head for Hopkins and Sittee Point which will catch up in notoriety and property prices but are as yet lesser developed than neighbouring Placencia.

And finally – do you want to get ahead of the curve and buy real estate in Belize in an area of the country that has yet to be discovered by mass tourism, many expatriates and most retirees?  Then go remote, head South and end up in Punta Gorda and base yourself in the town at the Sea Front Inn while you explore the Southernmost reaches of Belize and the Toledo District.  Buy a parcel of land, build your own home, sit back, put your feet up and leave the cares of the rest of the world so far behind.
