Summary: Some of Italy's most beautiful towns and villages are located in the north of the country and it is partly because of this reason that properties and in particular mountain properties for sale in Northern Italy are becoming increasingly popular with those in search of an idyllic holiday retreat.
Some of Italy’s most beautiful towns and villages are located in the north of the country and it is partly because of this reason that properties and in particular mountain properties for sale in Northern Italy are becoming increasingly popular with those in search of an idyllic holiday retreat.
The other reason that such properties are proving so appealing currently is because they are very attractively priced and offer the property investor or second home hunter in Italy excellent value for money.
Italian regions such as Umbria and Tuscany have already attracted massive levels of overseas home buyer interest and as a direct result desirable rural properties in these parts of Italy now resell for a premium.
Those seeking property as beautiful and in regions equally if not even more attractive are turning their attentions to Northern Italy and are being rewarded with stunning natural scenery, towns and cities rich in history and culture, home prices that are nothing if not affordable and greater accessibility as the low cost airlines venture deeper into Northern Italy.
The five main mountainous regions of Northern Italy are Piedmonte, Valle D’Aosta, Lombardia, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto and each offer the property buyer unique attractions, property types and charm.
The main city in Piedmonte is Turin and those seeking mountain properties for sale in Northern Italy will not be disappointed in Piedmonte which stretches right across the Maritime, Cotian, Graian and Pennine Alps as well as touching the Lepontine Alps. The attractions of this region are the natural landscape which is crisscrossed with Alpine streams and rivers, the ski resorts and the ancient historically and culturally rich cities of Turin, Asti, Alessandria, Cuneo, Novara, Vercelli, Biella and Verbania.
Valle D’Aosta or Aosta Valley is one of Italy’s smallest regions and it is also the most mountainous of Italy’s regions and is surrounded by the stunningly splendid Alpine peaks of Monte Bianco, the Matterhorn, the Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso. Mountain properties for sale in this part of Italy are traditionally Alpine and surrounded by pine forests, pastureland and small lakes. Properties tend to be quaint and rural and afford the property buyer an inimitably private and peaceful retreat.
The capital of the Lombaria or Lombardy region is Milan and both mountain and lake properties are already hugely popular in Lombardy where the main Italian Lakes such as Varese, lseo, Como and part of Lake Garda are located. Famous for its Romanesque architecture this region of Italy is more pricey than the aforementioned regions in terms of properties for sale because it is hugely popular with wealthy Italians who work during the week in Milan and seek a country or rural retreat for weekend pastimes. Property buyers should not be put off however as with careful searching, bargain properties can still be sourced.
Trentino and Alto Adige lie east of Lombardy and are very mountainous regions with rivers, castles, lakes, valleys, thermal springs and glaciers dominating the natural scenery. Trentino and Alto Adige have three national parks and an abundance of wildlife which make the regions popular with tourists seeking the peace and seclusion of the great outdoors. Mountain property hunters often favour Trentino and Alto Adige because of the scenery, the castles, the national parks and the abundance of affordable property for sale.
And last but by no means least the region of Veneto is blessed with both the stunning city of Venice and the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites of Cadore. Property prices in the region range from highly affordable in the mountains to restrictively expensive in Venice itself but those seeking mountain property for sale in Italy can buy cheaply in Veneto and have all the advantages of being within a short travelling distance from Venice and all her charms.
Italy has so much more to offer the property buyer than rural properties in Umbria and Tuscany or seaside and beach front properties for sale in Puglia or Calabria alone, and slowly but surely both the international investor community and holiday and retirement home hunters are being drawn by the lure of stunning and reasonably priced properties in Northern Italy.
