Many people consider Turkey to be an emerging market and to have cheap property for sale in abundance as a result – while property prices across much of Turkey are far cheaper than in resorts in Spain for example, prices have been rapidly increasing over the past three years and now finding cheap property for sale in Turkey can be tricky.
This article is a guide to finding affordable but decent Turkish property and it details some of the lesser known but desirable resorts in Turkey.
The first place to discuss is Altinkum which has developed a reputation for being one of the most affordable of the Mediterranean resorts in Turkey. A lot of the development in and around the town is apartment based which means that prices for a brand new home start from as little as GBP 45,000. However, not all of the developments are well built and only the ones closest to the beaches will afford a property investor any guarantees of earning an income from holiday rental.
For those looking for their own personal villa or apartment in the sun Altinkum is great – it has various infrastructure issues that will no doubt be addressed in time according to Turkey’s ambitious plans to increase tourism numbers from 17 million to 30 million by 2010 through various projects including the development of infrastructure across the country. The fact that Altinkum is not perfect means that it will remain affordable for sometime as more affluent purchasers can choose to buy in an area that is already developed.
Those who wish to buy into a period of future improvement would do well to consider Altinkum today.
Other affordable areas in Turkey include Datca and Kisla. Datca isn’t too far from Marmaris but it has been lesser discovered despite its unspoilt beauty because of poor road links with the outside world. As the road between Datca and Marmaris has improved so the location has started to attract tourists and developers…but at the moment it is still possible to find cheap property for sale in Datca with apartments starting from GBP 50,000 and villas from GBP 70,000.
Property investors beware though – at the moment the rental and resale potential in Datca is very poor – again, this is a good place to buy for those looking for their own unspoiled piece of Turkey or for those buying a potentially profitable property for the future.
Kisla on the Western Mediterranean has prices far cheaper than the popular nearby resort of Kalkan affording those who love the area but who are scared off by the ever increasing prices of the most popular resorts a chance to buy something attractive from under GBP 100,000.
They real key to finding affordable, well built and desirable property in Turkey is to spend time travelling around the coastline, getting off the beaten track, speaking to settled expatriates for their advice and maybe even relocating to a preferred region and renting property for a period of time to learn about any lesser advertised and marketed areas, developments or builders.
