Fethiye Property Market Overview

Fethiye Property Market OverviewThe lively town of Fethiye is situated on the Western Mediterranean coast in Turkey; the resort is just a 45 minute drive away from Dalaman’s international airport and has benefited greatly from substantial infrastructure improvements in recent years making it an accessible and popular location with holiday makers, expatriates and those looking for an investment property abroad.

This article provides a Fethiye property market overview for investors and holiday home hunters; it also details the property opportunities in the nearby towns, villages and resorts that Fethiye is the administrative centre for.

Fethiye comfortably curls around the Mediterranean Sea and is backed by impressive wooded hills and mountains, it is naturally shaded and benefits from a stunning climate for up to eight months of the year.  As a result it has long been a popular area for travellers and tourists, and in recent years as the Turkish government has begun actively promoting tourism, Fethiye and the surrounding towns and villages of Calis, Uzumlu, Hisaronu and Ovacik have all attracted strong interest from visitors, expatriate settlers and those in search of an investment property abroad or a holiday home in the sun.

The main hub of Fethiye is used more as a centre for an evening’s entertainment, as a retail base or a location to stroll around and admire – in terms of living in Fethiye it is the outer lying suburbs where the majority of expats and locals live and it is the nearby resorts such as Calis where holiday makers tend to stay.

Two of the suburbs of Fethiye most popular with those looking for a base in the town or a well located investment property are Karagozler, which has stunning bay views and rapidly increasing property prices, and Tasyaka where apartment construction is quite intense but where properties are relatively cheap starting from as little as GBP 50,000.

The popularity of Fethiye’s nearby sandy beach resort of Calis has seen property prices in the resort increasing quite sharply in recent months.  But investors or buyers who are in a position to move quickly can bag a villa for around GBP 100,000 or an apartment from as little as GBP 45,000 as long as it isn’t too close to the beach and find that if they are well maintained and in the vicinity of decent amenities they will rent very well.

The Fethiye area is mainly popular with British expatriates and those who move to the area to settle down tend to centre on either Uzumlu which is quite rural, more laid back and peaceful than other resorts in the area or Oludeniz which is just so picturesque that it is an idyllic location for a dream home overseas.

In terms of Fethiye’s property market overview – properties are going up in value, the demand is increasing from local buyers, overseas investors and expatriates and the demand for accommodation to let out during the long summer season is also intensifying as the accessibility of the whole area improves and the wider world learns about the fact that the areas in and around Fethiye are some of the most beautiful and striking in the whole of Turkey.
