Financial Expert Assists Brits Moving to AmericaAt Shelter Offshore we take the feedback we receive from our readers incredibly seriously – and since launching our ‘recommended expatriate financial services’ facility where we endeavour to assist readers with each and every enquiry they may have relating to their international financial status, we’ve learned that there’s a knowledge and advice gap in the service we’re offering.

Any Britons already living in America, as well as those in the UK planning on moving stateside, have been left very much wanting when it comes to advice and support from us at Shelter Offshore.  The advisers and advisories we can recommend are not regulated in the US, what’s more, they do not have the relevant cross border taxation knowledge to correctly advise on UK and US tax matters.  We apologise for this fact – and we have made it our mission to find the right advisory to potentially help you as you organise your money and tax matters for your new life living in the US.

Now Shelter Offshore is pleased to announce that we have teamed up with a new financial expert who is best placed to assist Britons moving to live in America, as well as those already resident in the US.  In this report we’ll detail our expert’s qualifications, regulations, areas of expertise and how he can potentially help you.  As always, please keep sending your feedback about the services we offer – because your comments help direct the service we deliver.

As regular readers will be aware, at Shelter Offshore we don’t offer personalised financial advice because we’re not regulated and therefore we’re not in a position to do so.  However, we have an expatriate financial services facility whereby we will do our best to assist any reader who contacts us to find the right adviser, advice, report or solution to fulfil their requirements.  We have received a substantial number of enquiries from Britons planning their relocation to America, as well as from those expats already resident in the US, and in each case the individual in question required qualified and expert advice from an advisor regulated in the US or the UK, with knowledge and understanding about cross border wealth management and taxation issues.

Finding an adviser to assist in such cases was not easy!  Few British based, FSA regulated financial advisories enter into the financial services industry or tax system in the US because it is so complex, and the American government is so aggressively controlling over those it regulates and allows to offer financial advice on US soil.  However, the good news is that one man has made it his personal mission to fill the support gap, and we’re very pleased to announce that he is now on hand to help you, our Shelter Offshore readers!

Introducing Ian Manwaring: -

Ian Manwaring is directly authorised by the FSA in the UK, (ref 500121), under the trading name Care Financial Management Ltd.  UK2US Wealth is the trading style of Care Financial Management Ltd that he specifically uses for any client work he undertakes in the area of US/UK financial planning.  Ian can advise UK clients moving to the US to emigrate, as well as those perhaps moving to America on a long-term expat assignment.  He works from the position of what you should be doing and how you should be planning for the management of your UK wealth whilst you’re an expat in America.  He looks at everything from your investments, to any pensions, savings or bonds you may have for example.

Most Brits should plan before they go and live in America – but in practice how many of us are that organised?  The good news is that for those of you who have already made the move and discovered that you’ve opened yourself up to US tax on your UK investments – even supposedly ‘tax-free’ ones like ISAs and pensions - as well as unit trusts etc., it’s never too late to get organised.

A common issue facing Britons who have already emigrated is that they are faced with the prospect of whether to declare certain UK assets to the IRS or not – well Ian can provide re-structuring advice and assistance to you for all of your investment/pension funds etc., and ensure you operate within the law and in the best way possible for the potential advancement of your wealth status.

Whilst Ian is not regulated to help clients with regard to US products and what’s available to them onshore in America, he works with two British, US based advisors in America who can fill this gap and assist and provide formal advice on American based options.  Ian also has international tax contacts in America, he works with experienced immigration contacts for those still considering the US as a potential home, and he has a good working knowledge of the US/UK tax treaty and US domestic taxes.

Ian holds the following qualifications: -

FINANCIAL PLANNING CERTIFICATE (FPC)
INVESTMENT ADVICE CERTIFICATE (IAC)
PROFESSIONAL INVESTMENT CERTIFICATE (PIC)
CERTIFICATE IN LONG TERM CARE (CF8)
CERTIFICATE IN MORTGAGES (CF6)
CERTIFICATE IN LIFETIME MORTGAGES (CF7)
EQUITY RELEASE/HOME REVERSION (HR1)

And he holds personal indemnity cover to the required minimum by the Financial Services Authority.  His insurers - a Lloyds of London syndicate firm -
are fully aware of his business activities in regards to interacting with UK nationals going to or already living in the US.

The nature of Ian’s work is very broad and encompasses many areas and aspects of financial planning – as a result he works on a fee basis rather than on a commission only structure for payment for advice.  The good news for Shelter Offshore readers is that Ian has agreed to offer an exclusive one off free assessment of your position if you require his services.  He will endeavour to explain how he can and will help you via an exchange of emails or on the telephone - at your convenience - and if you’re satisfied with the due diligence you undertake on him and his offer of proposed services, he will then lay out any fees payable before he takes on the business of helping you get your money matters in order.

If you would like to learn more about Ian or directly approach him for assistance or an assessment of your position as you plan for your new life in America, please use our expatriate financial services form to get in touch.
