Isle of Man Offshore Changes

Mon, September 17, 2007 - 11:24 am GMT

Isle of Man Offshore ChangesThe Isle of Man is one of the most highly regarded offshore and international finance centres because of the exemplary record of cooperation it holds, because of the superior investor protection schemes it keeps in place and because the calibre of the international and offshore institutions allowed to operate from the Isle of Man is exceptionally high.

To enable the Isle of Man to retain its position at the forefront of the offshore arena certain Isle of Man offshore changes are afoot because the Government and the Treasury are well aware that competition is heating up and they need to ensure they stay one step ahead of the competition to maintain their valuable reputation.

The most significant Isle of Man offshore change came today with the announcement of the appointment of John Spellman as Director and Head of Isle of Man Finance which is the division of the Treasury with responsibility for promotion and development of the financial services sector of the Isle of Man economy.

Mr. Spellman’s background is in banking and accounting and he has a deep knowledge of the offshore financial services industry and is widely regarded as an expert and leading figure in onshore and offshore banking, fund management and accountancy.

His new role is specifically to consolidate the Isle of Man’s position as a key and compliant offshore tax haven as well as being one of the world’s leading international finance centres and going forward, his job will be to ensure that the Isle of Man and the Treasury have the right strategies and structures in place to continue to lead the international finance arena.

The Isle of Man is one of the most dynamic, forward thinking and planning and well regulated of all the offshore tax havens in the world already.  And with these Isle of Man offshore changes and developments within key offices at the Treasury it is abundantly clear that the jurisdiction will do all it can to maintain and hone its internationally positive reputation.

Because the economy of the Isle of Man is so successful and so intricately linked to the position the island holds in the world of international finance, it makes absolute sense that the Government and Treasury will continue to do all they can to enhance the positive features and benefits of doing business, banking and investing in the Isle of Man.

As you can probably tell – we at Shelter Offshore have a great deal of respect for this particular offshore tax haven and international finance centre – and this respect has been earned largely by the superior investor protection schemes that the jurisdiction maintains.
