As November the 14th fast approaches and we’re counting down to the official opening of ‘Europe’s Destination Station’ - namely London St. Pancras International Station and the launch of the new Eurostar services to mainland Europe, the concept of working abroad and actually Euro commuting daily from the UK becomes a much more realistic one.
The launch of the new high speed rail services between London, the Southeast of England and the likes of Brussels in Belgium and Paris and Lille in France together with the ease of parking and the accessibility of additional stations along the UK end of the route means that more and more Brits are seriously considering the prospects and advantages of Euro commuting...that is, living in the UK and working in France or even Belgium.
Eurostar services from St. Pancras will allow euro commuters access to Paris in just over 2 hours, Brussels in 1 hour and 50 minutes and Lille in just over an hour. What’s more, Ebbsfleet International Station near Dartford and close to Junction 2 of the M25 and accessible by the M20, M2 and A2 routes will also allow passengers to board the Eurostar services and get to the continent in record quick time.
The prospects for employment in Brussels and Paris are manifold – what’s more, as the UK is now so Europe-focused many UK based businesses want to be active and have a presence on the mainland as well. This new rail service and the new, more accessible stations offer those considering working abroad but unconvinced about the benefits of expatriating, a way to realize their ambitions AND it provides UK based business persons with an easy way to get back and forth across the Channel and explore business expansion and development strategies and opportunities.
The station near Dartford will have 9,000 car park spaces across six car parks and there will be a dedicated 3,000 spaces available for domestic commuters as well because in about 2009 the station will also service UK train routes as well. This particular station will open later in November 2007 and when it does, it is expected that great volumes of euro commuters currently working abroad on the Continent and being forced to live Monday to Friday away from their families and then fly back at the weekend will take up the option of daily commutes to the mainland.
Finally, there is another station under development that may well tie in to this Europe bound train route by 2010. In Stratford in London an international station is under construction and included in many of the plans for the London 2012 Olympics. If this station comes on line for the Eurostar services, it will mean even greater mainland accessibility options for those who like the prospect of working abroad purely under their terms!
