Crime, Health, Safety & Accessibility - part 4 of where in the world…

Accessibility & transportation

How easy is it going to be for you to reach your new home overseas?  Are you near to ports, airports, stations or bus depots?

How accessible is your new home going to be in relation to the shops and services essential to you?  And what about affording to get around or affording to travel ‘back home’ if necessary.

Furthermore, are the people you care about and want to see going to be able to afford to see you?

Health care services

If you have children, if you suffer ill health or if you are approaching retirement you may have concerns about the levels and accessibility as well as the affordability and quality of the health care on offer abroad.

It might be important for you to price up health insurance and get a feel for what’s going to be realistically available to you in your new country overseas before you go so that you are not caught out.

If your health is important to you (!) and you are concerned about how you will fare abroad make sure you do the relevant research before you make a final decision.  Ask other expats living in your dream country, research on the internet, visit and go with your gut feel.

Don’t leave anything that is important to you personally to chance...please!

To accompany the “where in the world series” I’ve been recommending some books that I’ve found useful on my travels!  Here’s another very good read
