Summary: For those who wish to move to the Persian Gulf area of the Middle East it's important to begin the hunt for employment before leaving home because of the visa requirements for those who wish to live and work in the UAE. The best place to start is by contacting UAE and Dubai recruitment agencies.

UAE Dubai Recruitment AgenciesThe popularity of Dubai and the entire United Arab Emirates for job seekers is no secret; well paying, tax free employment opportunities abound in many industry sectors, and the quality of life achievable for expatriates living in Dubai in particular is very well documented.

But for those who wish to move to the Persian Gulf area of the Middle East it’s important to begin the hunt for employment before leaving home because of the visa requirements for those who wish to live and work in the UAE.  The best place to start is by contacting UAE and Dubai recruitment agencies.

If you run an internet search for UAE Dubai recruitment agencies you’ll likely find many results returned and just the thought of contacting so many companies can be quite daunting!  Therefore if you have a specific skill or wish to work in a given industry sector such as financial services, construction or hotel and catering for example, you can refine your search with these additional qualifiers.  Once you have a list of the recruitment agencies with potential positions that you’re eligible to apply for you should begin submitting your CV or resume complete with a covering letter to each agency.

We receive many CVs weekly for those wishing to work in Dubai in the financial services industry and unfortunately many of them create a poor first impression.

Here are some general dos and don’ts for your resume and covering letter or email: -

DO: -

Include your full contact information
Include details of your qualifications
Include information about RELEVANT work experience for the position or industry sector that you are applying for
Write about why you believe you’re an ideal candidate for employment
Include details of referees from whom personal and employment references can be obtained
Write in English - if English is not your first language have a professional translation service translate your CV

DON’T: -

Add your photo to your CV - it’s not necessary
Write in shorthand, text talk or poor or broken English
Apply for all and any jobs - target a specific industry sector or identify a personal skill set and apply for positions applicable
Beg for a job!

Remember the old adage - ‘you never get a second chance to make a first impression’ - therefore your covering letter should present you in the best possible light, it should be well written, professionally presented and get straight to the heart of the matter about why you should be considered for any employment opportunity specific to your skills, qualifications and experience.

The better the covering letter the better the impression - the better the impression you make on a Dubai recruitment agency or potential employer in the UAE the more likely it is you will be invited for interviews and considered for employment.

Once you’ve contacted all the suitable recruitment companies you can find it’s wise to send a follow-up email or letter or to telephone the agency if you haven’t heard from them a week after you believe your correspondence should have arrived.  Having said that it is unwise to continually harass any recruitment company, but some contact should have been made within a week of them receiving your CV.

Hopefully you will receive details of positions you’re suitable for and be invited to attend interviews in person or to conduct an initial interview over the telephone.  Depending on the type of job you’re applying for you may be invited to the UAE for interview at the employer’s expense, invited for a preview in your home country or alternatively you may be recruited remotely and granted a visa and a trial contract.

If you’re finding it hard to secure a job in the UAE you could consider asking the recruitment agencies you’ve applied to for feedback on where you’re going wrong.  It may be necessary for you to revise your resume, get certain qualifications or obtain more experience for example.  But without proper feedback you will not be able to improve your approach.  While none of us particularly welcome negative feedback, in the case of finding out what it is that’s preventing you from securing that dream job it’s a good idea to grin and bear it and find out what it is that’s holding you back.
