Living in Perth Australia

Perth in Western Australia is a popular location for emigrants because it is beautiful, affluent and enjoys a great climate

Living in Perth AustraliaPerth is one of the most popular city destinations in Australia for families who emigrate from the UK and over one third of the city’s population was actually born overseas.

British residents make up around twelve and a half percent of the population and for them living in Perth Australia is the realisation of their dream to live in an attractive overseas location with good employment prospects, a high standard of living and an excellent climate.

Perth is in Western Australia and a large part of its strong and buoyant economy can be attributed to the fact that it has impressive deposits of metal ore, coal and oil on its doorstep and the mining and refining industries of these natural assets are large employers for Perth’s residents.

As Perth is such an isolated city it used to enjoy highly affordable property prices but increased accessibility, improved employment prospects and earning potential as well as the raising of the profile of the city has encouraged a strong inward national and international migration and a rise in demand for property in Perth which has pushed up the price of real estate.

Before prices of property shot up Perth’s residents were some of the wealthiest in Australia in real terms because they had wages on a par with their peers in the likes of Sydney and Melbourne but they had a far smaller outlay for property.

Today Perth’s residents are still considered to be quite affluent with the wealthiest suburbs to be found in central and northern Perth.  British families have mainly favoured the northern suburbs such as Beldon, Connolly, Edgewater, Mullaloo and Ocean Reef and while the dream of an ocean front house is shared by many who move to Perth the fact that prices of beach front properties are extortionate and that at certain times of the year the wind can be very strong as you move closer to the coast puts most people off the idea of living so close to the Indian Ocean on the shores of which Perth is built.

As Perth lies in Western Australia it enjoys some stunning sunsets over the Indian Ocean and this is one of the reasons residents cite as a perk of living in the city.  Other benefits of living in Perth are the climate which is described as Mediterranean – i.e., hot in the summer and temperate in the winter – the fact that the city is largely clean, well landscaped and looked after, the transportation system is superior and the countryside and beaches around the city are beautiful.

Reasons not to favour living in Perth Australia would be the fact that it is a family orientated city and therefore less popular with the young, free and single.  So if you’re thinking of moving to Australia and you fall into the above category the likes of Sydney or Melbourne might better suit.  Other negatives associated with living in Perth are the fact that the city has a scarily high house burglary rate, it can get swamped by flies at certain times in the summer and sometimes it is just too hot.
