If living in Cyprus is your dream find out what you can expect from Cypriot life.
When it comes to living in Cyprus a decision has to be made as to whether you would prefer to live on the Turkish North side of the island of the Greek South side of Cyprus.
Despite the fact the Republic of Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 the island is still divided.
Generally speaking the North side of the island is less built up, less touristy, less well developed and as a result less sophisticated.
North Cyprus has suffered trade embargos and worldwide ostracism since the 1970’s meaning that it has been unable to attract foreign investment and foreign visitors on the same scale as the South side of the island. If you are looking for beautiful unspoilt scenery and you are happy to live in a world that is a little bit ramshackle and a tiny bit rough around the edges then the North side of the island might be where you choose to make your home.
South Cyprus is what most people know when they think of Cyprus. This is the side of the island with global tourism, major infrastructure and residential development and where you can always find a full English breakfast! If Cypriot living for you is all about having a little bit of Britain or Germany in the sun for example, then you might prefer living on the South of the island.
Whichever side of the island you prefer, Cyprus, both north and south, has an awful lot to offer anyone thinking of living on the island.
For a fairly up to date travel guide to the North and the South, Shelter Offshore recommend: -

Across Cyprus - The climate is beautiful, the sea is calm, the scenery is stunning, sites of historical interest are everywhere, the people are welcoming, the schools and hospitals are well equipped and staffed and there are a number of international airports across the island making access easy.
You can enjoy a European standard of living across Cyprus - particularly in the south - with the cost of living being fairly low on both sides of the green line.
Furthermore the quality of life you can enjoy across Cyprus is very high - possibly unrivalled.
Crime is low, and Cypriots are hard working, well educated, hospitable, honest and reliable people and as a result Cyprus attracts tourists and expats in droves!
Holidaying in Cyprus is very different to living there however and you need to bear this in mind if you are thinking of setting up home on the island.
Consider renting on the island for a time before making the final decision that - yes - Cypriot life is what you really want.
