Living in Belize and Loving the WeatherBrits tired of the rainy, cold weather of old Blighty are really starting to pay attention to other countries that offer a warmer year-round appeal at this time of the year as the long winter stretches ahead of them in the UK.

And if getting far away from Britain’s weather is what you desire why not consider joining lots of your fellow countrymen living in Belize and loving the weather because this nation is fast becoming a hot proposition!

With is completely different pace of life and overall much lower cost of living to the UK, Belize is a Commonwealth country that is becoming the adopted homeland of many British expats.  Beyond the value of financial savings made and relatively easy immigration practices, living in Belize tends to appeal for two main reasons – its climate and its geography.

The tiny Central American country has three distinct geographical regions.  Each does have its own, slightly different weather pattern but overall Brits will find a much balmier year-round appeal to this country.

The regions of Belize are:

The North. The Northern part of the country is considered relatively flat and it’s known for its plains, savannahs and swampy coastal areas.  Within the northern region’s inlands you’ll also find some rain forest - elevations here are generally no more than 300 feet.

The South. The Southern region tends to be a bit more mountainous and it’s home to marshes, some rain forest and savannahs.  The Maya Mountains, which extend into Guatemala, give this area elevations that rise to about 3,000 feet.

The Islands. The cayes offshore Belize’s coastline make up the third distinct geographical region this country offers.  Most islands do not have developments on them but this is not always the case and you can actually find some of the best real estate in Belize on the cayes.  Here you will find mangroves, palm trees and lots of tropical sands and warm waters.

The climate in Belize is nothing like that found in Great Britain!!  The country faces a dry season from December until about May and from June to November Britons might feel more at home as the skies tend to open up each day for a healthy rainfall.  The rains here do tend to vary depending on the region.  Some parts of Belize receive about 50 inches a year, but others can see as much as 177!

Temperatures in Belize tend to stay rather warm by British standards.  Belize City for example has an average year-round temperature of about 22 degrees centigrade.  Temperatures throughout the country almost never drop into what any Briton would constitute as “cold.”

Like all coastal areas in this part of the world, hurricanes can be a threat to Belize.  The hurricane season tends to run from June until November.  The country has not faced too many major storms in its history, but the threat is always present during the season.

Moving to Belize from Great Britain will bring with it plenty of changes.  The things that combine to make the move click for many expatriates are the weather and geography.  This country offers a paradise for Britons used to cold and rainy weather who are seeking more favourable conditions.
