Finding Work in Hungary

Finding Work in HungarySince Hungary joined the European Union back in 2004 the popularity of the country with expatriates and international companies has surged; in fact, of all the newest EU entrants Hungary has benefited most significantly from an influx of foreign investment and the local economy has been boosted as a direct result.

The attraction of the country and in particular the city of Budapest has also brought in property investors and a growing number of expatriates who are finding work in Hungary and settling down to a new life in a country that manages to be dynamic and forward thinking whilst retaining its history and beauty.

Finding work in Hungary for EU citizens is now a far simpler affair; firstly holders of EU passports are able to reside and work in Hungary without having to seek permission to do so – although if such people intend residing permanently in the country they will need to establish residency and start paying taxes locally.

Secondly the job prospects in Hungary, particularly in the city of Budapest, have improved dramatically in the past couple of years as a direct result of Hungary having attracted so many international companies to its borders.  Unemployment has dramatically fallen in Hungary and there is a shortage of specifically skilled and experienced individuals in various industries such as the metallurgy, car manufacturing and construction industries.

Nowadays over a third of all business conducted in Hungary is done in Budapest which is why the majority of those seeking work head for the city.  There are a number of recruitment agencies in Budapest who recruit for all the main industries including Hungary’s booming IT, car manufacturing, publishing and tourism industries.  The service industry is the biggest employer in Hungary by far and those with good qualifications, strong experience and specifically required skills will find it quite straightforward to find employment in Hungary.

English is of course the international business language which means that many British expatriates are setting up home in Budapest today.  Many have been initially attracted by the incredibly affordable property prices and cost of living and have then gone on to discover that well paying employment is possible to secure in Hungary.

And finally, those who find work in Hungary and then relocate with their family and have a requirement for expat education overseas can take advantage of the quality educational standards the country achieves in all of its schools and of the fact that there are a number of international schools in Budapest that follow the English national curriculum.
