It’s official – Canada wants you! If you’re dissatisfied with your life in the UK, you are skilled and qualified and you’re one of the 37% that YouGov have identified who are British adults who want to leave the UK specifically because of growing financial pressures, then there’s one country that is vying for your attention and your relocation.
If you want to escape UK, you should move to live and work in Canada where the cost of living is good, the cost of housing is lower than in the UK, where there are job vacancies and where they are now actively recruiting Britons to relocate and start a new life in Canada – specifically in Alberta.
According to a report in today’s Mail newspaper, Alberta’s employment minister Hector Goudreau has been sent to the UK specifically to recruit those of us who are fed up with the state of play in the UK – who are fed up with rising crime, rising immigration, rising costs of living, rising inflation and stagnating house prices and a non-existent mortgage market. Alberta is in desperate need of skilled and qualified, experienced and intelligent immigrants, and it is focused on the UK because the authorities in Canada can see just how dissatisfied Brits have become with the state of life in the UK.
Canadian officials will be well aware that the rate at which people have been leaving the UK has soared sharply in recent years - 200,000 left in 2006 for example – and so they are targeting us with advertising campaigns and at expos and recruitment fairs. The Canadian way of life is being sold as much more rewarding and fulfilling than the British way of life and so we at Shelter Offshore think that it is highly likely that Canada – and Alberta in particular – will fulfill its new targets to attract 50,000 foreign workers with the next year just by hitting on the British public alone!!!
In Canada wages are at least comparable with British averages, with wages for professionals such as oil workers, which Alberta needs, doctors, teachers and IT workers often higher in Canada than in the UK. Whilst the higher rate of tax is 2% more in Canada than in the UK, there are many tax breaks and the majority of people don’t fall into the higher bracket. The cost of living in Canada is far lower than in the UK – the cost of fuel for one thing is over 50% more affordable on average in Canada.
House prices in Canada are far more stable AND affordable, and because the nation is so expansive, most homes are more spacious and come with more outside space than British equivalents.
Those whom the Canadian authorities want – i.e., specifically skilled and experienced individuals and their families – will face less arduous times when applying for visas to relocate thanks to the current drive to encourage talent to move to Canada. If a move sounds like the perfect solution for you and the perfect way for you to escape the doom and gloom of the UK, look for a Canadian recruitment fair near you or simply go to the Canadian immigration website and look for more details of how you can apply for a visa.
