Guide to Canada - Location
Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia, but it only has about one fifth of the population of Russia.
Most Canadians actually live within 160km of the American border, meaning that vast swathes of the country are unpopulated.
Canada is situated north of America, and it borders the North Atlantic Ocean on the east, the North Pacific Ocean on the west, and the Arctic Ocean on the north. The climate in Canada ranges from fairly temperate in the south to sub arctic and arctic in the north.
Despite its close proximity to the US and the fact that Canada and the US have the world’s largest trading relationship, Canada is not a watered down version of the United States, nor its poor cousin - it is a strong, diverse, beautiful and dynamic country in its own right.
Canada - A Successful Multicultural Society
Through the astute active promotion of immigration Canada has become one of the richest most successful countries in the world, and has managed to develop a thriving multicultural society which suffers from very little racism.
Its main exports are machinery, automotive products, metals and plastics, forestry products, agricultural and fishing products.
Making up Canada’s multicultural landscape are the three main groups of indigenous Aboriginal people - namely the First Nations, the Inuit and the Metis - the British and the French together with many new residents hailing from Europe and Asia. The two official languages of Canada are English and French and Canada’s Head of State is the British Monarch.
