Goodhealth Worldwide Renamed But Still Supporting Expatriate Healthcare AbroadOne of the leading international insurers of healthcare services for expatriates living and working abroad is Goodhealth Worldwide – but they’ve been bought up, renamed, rebranded and turned into Aetna Global Benefits.  Now, whilst we fear the new name is a bit of a mouthful and unlike Goodhealth Worldwide it hardly does what it says on the tin, the good news is that under the Aetna brand, expats will still be able to get exceptional levels of healthcare and insurance.

Aetna is a US based company and with their purchase of the Goodhealth Worldwide brand they have effectively expanded their reach in terms of the services they can offer.  Those already insured by Goodhealth have nothing to fear from the take over and rebrand, and those looking for international healthcare cover could do well to take a closer look at this player in the marketplace.

Whilst the likes of AXA PPP and Bupa have an incredibly strong presence in terms of international health insurance, they are not the be all and end all when it comes to health insurance providers for expatriates and those who lead a particularly international and flexible lifestyle.  We always advise our readers to shop around, and with Aetna’s take over of Goodhealth, we think now could be a good time to review the company’s services.

Winner of the 2008 International Private Healthcare Insurer of the Year Award, Goodhealth have long been respected in the industry for targeting their services and support to their international client base.  Now, coupled with Aetna’s financial clout and weight in the health insurance industry, it could be a good time for expatriates looking for positive changes in terms of their health care insurance options.  With Bupa’s recent reassessment of the way health insurance should be sold, many more providers are looking at similar ways of offering clients more of what they want, and less of the gold, silver, bronze approach to health care where you’re lumped together in a bracket depending on what you can afford!

Aetna may well follow in Bupa’s footsteps, but in the meantime they have value added services that expats may already like to look at, for example they have regional offices in the likes of London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Miami, Shanghai and Jakarta where staff are multilingual.  They offer a database that you can use to search for medical and health resources worldwide, and finally, their emergency evacuation benefit ensures that if the required treatment is not available at the place of incident you, as Aetna’s client, will be immediately transported to an appropriate facility.

This gives an expat working anywhere abroad massive peace of mind – because it’s really only until you need to call on a nation’s health care services that you become aware of what is and is not available to you!  To know that you can be taken to an appropriate facility no matter where it is, thanks to the level of health insurance cover you have, is fantastic.

If you’re looking for international health insurance coverage, it’s good to know that there is competition in the market, and that the competition is backed by a global player and offers you comprehensive and appropriate international cover to match your lifestyle.  We look forward to seeing what this rebranding means for expats – in the meantime the Goodhealth Worldwide website is a good place to start to learn more about the take over, the rebrand and what new directions the company is thinking of taking.
