September’s a Lovely Month

The sun is still out, the sky is still blue but for whatever reason as soon as September arrives Turkey comes back into view.

It’s true, during the (short) winter months you can quite often see the impressive outline of what I guess are the Toros Mountains on Turkey’s Southern Mediterranean coastline which is a mere 70km away from us here in Northern Cyprus.  But during the hot, hot, hot summer months from May to August they disappear in a heat haze.

I got up this morning and have never seen the sea looking so blue and there just on the horizon was the outline of the mountains again - just beautiful.  Living here is easy because it’s beautiful!  Tra la la.

Anyway, September is also a lovely month because it’s Andy’s birthday and this year a celebratory curry is definitely on the cards!  We went to The Courtyard in Karakum on Saturday night to check out their fare as our favourite Indian eatery gave us a bit of Dehli Belly last time and we needed to find an alternative - no names mentioned!  We’d been t’Courtyard before but had been put off by that kind of ‘live musik’ experience that makes dining an indigestible affair.

Anyway, this time we weren’t disappointed - in fact I haven’t had a lovelier meal in many a long year and am VERY happy that we’ve found a new place to dine.  So that could be the venue for his 21st(!)...we shall see.

Now this particular September could be even lovelier than all the other Septembers of my life put together (which shouldn’t be hard as September was a ‘going back to school’ month for me for blooming ages and therefore pants) for one big reason - I wasn’t going to mention it in case it fails to come to pass...but...well...the due date is almost upon us so I feel I can divulge my secret.  I’m getting a puppy!!!  Okay, okay to most people (all people?) this is an uninteresting event in the greater scheme of things in Northern Cyprus but for me it’s ‘a-big-deal’ okay?

So, expect to be inundated with pictures of aforementioned puppy should the great event come to pass...or to see a drop off in entries from me as I fall into a deep depression should it fail to come to pass!

Okay, enough already - I’m off out to enjoy the much cooled, gorgeous temperatures of this September afternoon and to take a stroll along the harbour.  Sigh, life is so hard in TRNC sometimes!
