Well it’s that time of year again when we move house. We’re basically gypsies I think because we can’t stay put in one country for more than three years or one house for more than twelve months! It’s not just me, he’s the same and as for the dog, well, wherever he lays his bone is his home so he’s alright!
We’ve sorted a property sale out on the one hand and found a new house on the other but to leave it at that would be to make a molehill out of a mountain because as I’m sure you’re aware, moving time means plenty of stress…for example how many times can you mop a floor of dog dribble in a week, smile at prospective buyers (read tyre kickers) and being seduced by your removal man?
So yes, selling up is hard – when you’ve put as much into a place as we have it’s even harder. We’ve had plenty of interest and now believe we’ve found a serious buyer (fingers crossed here guys) but along the way we had our fair share of people nosing about and picking holes in our decorative tastes and garden design – I mean, why do that, if you’re not gonna buy the frickin place just keep your gob shut and get lost!
Oh and then we had people who wanted to negotiate – hahahaha – don’t negotiate with me, I am as immoveable as my property – and I take offence and I hold a grudge – forever – you’ve been warned.
Oh and then there were those who accidentally forgot my phone number, address and name as well probably and never bothered turning up at appointed hours when I’d spent hours on my knees scrubbing months of dog dribble of the kitchen tiles.
So, yes, moving swiftly on – finding a new place was easy – in fact it reminded me somewhat of days out buying school shoes. You’d find a decent pair in the first shop, spend the rest of the day trawling the high street in the rain only to rush back to the first place quick before it closed to bag yourself that very first pair!
So, well, we fell in love with the first place we saw – but only after we’d seen a million other places did we realise that we love the first place – we even saw a pad owned by a total tosser who was quite possibly the rudest man I have ever met in my life and who sought to impress me with the width of his plasma TV…little did he know mine’s bigger than his! Ha…read it and weep fat boy.
So there we are…oh no, wait I forgot about the removal man. Yes, Sergio, he came to meet me to discuss my requirements and spent the whole day telling me all about his life, divulging his inner most secrets, asking me very intimate questions, telling me that if he was 30 years younger my husband wouldn’t stand a chance before driving off into the sunset and then sending me a very favourable quotation – I wonder, is that how he wins all his business! Neat and unique business practice – perhaps one to patent?
So, watch this space we’re moving to live and work in Nicosia in Cyprus.
