I know I should count myself lucky, and most of the time I really do – after all I live in a house that’s complete, pretty much perfect and which has stunning sea views and (thanks to Tolga the amazing gardener) which now has a beautiful garden full of plants (about which I know not a lot except that they have flowers and fruit on them sometimes)…oh and we have the best gravel ever – it’s all pink marble chips and shiny.
But there’s one thing that’s bothering me – driving me to distraction actually. And I think it’s a case of me having to have something to stress about rather than it being a big bad thing….but then maybe I haven’t lost all sense of perspective and it really is an issue? You see I have drainpipes without the pipes and this makes for a real mess when it rains and the water is driven down the wall of the house hitting the window on the way and drowning my geraniums as a result.
I’ve been on to the builder about this…and on, and on and on…in then end I wrote to them this morning and it went something like this “I am having a little trouble with my drain pipes - I have drains but not the pipes and this has been the situation now for a good few weeks.
I have made both X and Y* aware of the issue on numerous occasions but so far nothing has been done.
The whole site in Karsiyaka was given drain pipes but I was only given the trough part of the apparatus and what’s more, the trough on my property at the back of the house has a crack in it and leaks resulting in water pouring down the wall when it rains which means it’s worse than when you started.
While this issue is not life threatening, the end of the world or even dramatically exciting I would like it fixed if at all possible please…
Many thanks for your attention with regard to this matter.”

Now I know what you’re thinking – ‘is that all she’s got to worry about?’ – but the thing is I feel victimized. It’s true, everyone else has drains and pipes and elbow bits so the pipe bends at the end and the water is directed away from the house but I haven’t. It’s because I won’t usually let the builders near the house because if I see another silicone gun I’ll be sick. It’s because I got someone else in to raise my wall and the ‘engineer’ of my particular chosen construction company has a personal vendetta against me as a result. It’s because my mild mannered husband finally lost the plot with the builders back in the bad old days when we were camped out and waiting for our home with no end in site, no kitchen in the kitchen and the dogs shut away in kennels.
So, I know why I have drains and no pipes and that’s part of the overall problem – I know I will always have drains and no pipes…so the only question now remaining is where can I find a man to fit me some down pipes? Any ideas?
