I was chatting to Mike in the Night Jar - where else...it really is my home from home.
Anyway, he was telling me that he and Fraser and Beyler (prominent estate agency here in TRNC who happen to have the pleasure of employing him) have come up with a well smart idea (well I think it’s really dead clever anyway) and to facilitate the idea they are “in talks” with none other than...leading insurers Lloyds (yes, “of London") - dum dum duuuuuum - big stuff…

We were on the way to Ercan and it was raining...not a lot, but enough for there to be muddy spray all over the place and for our windscreen to be covered in a not very see-through layer of sludge...which was...errrrm...hard to see through - yes.
Anyway, we had no water left in the windscreen washer bottle...(it gets more exciting, trust me)

Every Expat’s Best Friend
A pretty bad sonnet type attempt - sorry, I’m not a poet it seems…
Mr. Tektan installs DigiTurk and Sky,
Putting huge ginomous satellite dishes up on high,
Which means I get to watch Eastenders again
And Holby City and Casualty all those people, all that pain!
Mr. Tektan sells air conditioning and fans to cool,
Without them you’d melt in North Cyprus you fool!
So in the summer his shop is heaving with sweaty expats
The ones with white legs, Bermuda shorts and sun hats.
In the winter Mr. Tektan sells heaters and torches,
Yes in the summer the sun scorches
But in the winter it’s damn cold here
But Mr. Tektan will save you, have no fear.
Who’ll keep you warm, who’ll keep you cool, who’ll entertain you?
Mr Tektan, that’s who!

I like estate agents - in fact - I wanted to be one - once.
So, I’ve decided to set up an ‘adopt your favourite estate agent’ scheme in North Cyprus and I’m looking for volunteers.

Oh God I’ve got mouldy curtains? What’s a woman to do?
You see it all started about 2 months ago when I went out and left the window open and, well, a tropical storm sort of ‘happened’ to my bedroom.

I’ve been in North Cyprus for quite a while now and have been on the receiving end of countless pieces of useless advice and numerous totally incorrect observations from expats and locals alike...
From where the main police station isn’t in Lefkosa (I spent a whole DAY wandering round completely lost in July) to the fact that installing my central heating was a waste of good money and I’d never need it - har har har, very funny...but why does no one ever tell you about the important things?

It’s December in North Cyprus, the fruit trees are weighed down with their burgeoning crop, the wild flowers are just starting to appear and the sun has been shining - again!!
We were lucky to miss a week of fairly pants weather in TRNC last week apparently, because we were back in the UK for our annual pre-Christmas manic rush around visiting the families. So we decided to go out and make the most of our luck and the now warm again December sunshine as soon as we got back.

Andy and I went for a wander down by the new harbour in Girne today to have a look see and see what we could see, see, see.
We’d been out in the car yesterday and I’d spotted some very tall masts and we decided to go for a closer look...who says my life is dull?!

From the balcony at the back of our flat we have a lovely view of the army’s rubbish dump - I mean ‘storage facility’ - shhh, don’t tell them, they might think we’re spies.
It’s sort of a field full of long grass, weeds, and lots of stuff the army don’t want anymore...like bald tyres and holey boots and chairs with legs missing and more importantly, cupboards...lots and lots of cupboards...I don’t know why, so don’t ask!
