I am oh so ever so excited – but totally exhausted and falling asleep at my desk (nothing new there then – did I ever tell you about power napping on the loo when I worked for Citigroup?) Sorry, I digress, yes indeed, Andy and I are working day and night on a brand spanking funkily new version of our little gem AboutNorthCyprus.com
As many of you know, we started the site after this wee bloggie here got quite a lot of attention because quite simply there is not enough written about living and working in North Cyprus and because the only people writing about property in North Cyprus were the maybe, possibly, I should probably think so slightly biased estate agents. Well at long last the best independent information site all about living, working, retiring and investing in North Cyprus site is getting a thorough overhaul.

Isn’t it funny how quickly we can forget unpleasant things and sign up to them all over again? Last week the buyers of our property in Ozankoy took over the house and were happy to do so…but then they asked if I’d use my wealth of vastly superior knowledge in terms of all things ‘moving to North Cyprus’ (hmmmm) and help them with the process of importing their furniture.
Now, Andy and I performed this feat for ourselves about two years ago – and as I said, it’s funny how quickly you can forget really unpleasant things such as the horrendously long drawn out process that you have to go through to get your container out of jail in Famagusta and to your door – so of course I said, ‘yes I’ll help’…

North Cyprus is a funny place - it doesn’t have a MacDonald’s but it does have cash dispensers from which you can withdraw multiple currencies, it doesn’t have a Marks and Spencer but it does have lots of different telephone directories – however not one of them lists every single business in North Cyprus and not one of them lists a single home telephone number…
As a result I have become the unofficial North Cyprus Yellow Pages – if you need to know a number then just call or text Rhiannon and if that person is worth knowing or that company is worth doing business with then she’ll have the number you need…

Well, what a crazy time we’re having – we moved into the Ozankoy house in December…and now we’re moving out again. My mother asked whether moving is now a hobby and I think maybe it’s more of an addiction – I’d go and see someone about it if being mentally ill was legal in North Cyprus but I have a feeling it isn’t!
Anyway, so, yes we’re on the move again – this time we’re heading back to the flat for a bit – look, just don’t ask why okay? So, the flat was Barbie pink when we bought it and then we spent weeks painting it but really it all needs a good freshen up because where furniture used to be but now isn’t but may well be again the paint is a different shade and so we need paint – and so we need the best painter and decorator in North Cyprus.

Well it’s been a long hard winter in Northern Cyprus so far, and so when the sun finally popped out from behind a cloud last week I decided it was high time I took Cheese out for a walk.
The trouble is we live along a dirt track that turns into a muddy swamp when it rains and Cheese won’t venture near it so it was a case of driving somewhere and taking him for a drag and so off we went to Salamis.

Seeing as what it was like a special occasion yesterday (mine and Andy’s wedding anniversary to be precise) we decided to splash out and go to the self-proclaimed ‘best a’la carte restaurant’ - we assume they mean in North Cyprus though of course they could mean in the world - or, seeing as it’s located in Ozankoy - in Ozankoy? But then it would be the ‘only a’la carte restaurant’ wouldn’t it?
Well, anyway, it’s called Patina and it’s located in Villa Citrus which is/was a pretty impressive house with v. nice garden and pool and the like - though seeing as yesterday was a wet and windy day in January we made the sensible decision to dine inside...hmmmm.

High on a hill was a lonely goat herd...no...let’s start that one again; there in my garden was a lonely goat. Yes, that’s more accurate.
Andy and I took young Cheese Bartholomew Biscuit III for a walk yesterday - the power was off - what else was there to do...and upon nearing our house on our return we realised that we were being followed.

Buying property in any emerging market in the world is going to be a risky business and those who do not take care, do their due diligence and plan for the worst will always run the risk of falling victim to unscrupulous types who see Westerners as having too much money and therefore being a fair target for ripping off.
From what I’ve read this is the case in Romania for example as well as the likes of Cape Verde, Croatia, Bulgaria, Ghana and now Northern Cyprus.

Owning a dog in North Cyprus comes with a whole range of new perilous hurdles to traverse (can you traverse a perilous hurdle?) - well, anyway, issues you’d never necessarily dream of when planning on getting a hound.
I’ve always wanted a doggy of mine very own and now I have one (pictured) I love him with the fierceness of a mummy lion guarding her cubs...but now that I have one I also kinduv wish I’d never wanted one in the first place...you see, North Cyprus is not an easy place to be when you’re a dog.

HSBC may call themselves ‘The World’s Local Bank’ but in Kyrenia in North Cyprus HSBC are ‘The World’s Local Meeting Place’.
Anyone who’s been to North Cyprus before is always intrigued by the fact that we’ve got an HSBC - no other big brand international names are here - I mean, we don’t even have a MacDonalds and there’s even a MacDonalds in China for God’s sake! But we have got an HSBC…
